Getting rid of ants is messy. Many times we reach for harmful pesticides or sticky traps and by the end we end up calling an exterminator to handle it. There is a simple and effective way to keep ants away from your house once and for all. Follow these three easy steps to becoming ant free in no time.

Get rid of ants naturally with mint.
By planting mint around your house, you will be placing 24-hour guards around your house and telling the ants to stay out. Begin by walking around your house and identifying the areas where the ants are getting in. Look around windows, doors, cracks in the foundation, and crevices in the siding. You will want to plant clusters of mint for every trouble area. Next, prepare the ground for planting. Pay close attention to the areas directly around windows and doors, as this is the best use of the mint plant. Dig a hole sufficiently deep to receive the plant and some fertilizer. Once you have the mint planted, make sure it is watered well so the roots will be encouraged to travel outside the potting soil.

Get rid of ants naturally with vinegar.
Find any spray gun, empty it of any of its any contents and clean it thoroughly. Then, find some vinegar; pour your vinegar into the bottle with an equal amount of water. Mix well. Locate all the ant trails leading to your home. Spray the diluted vinegar on the ant trails. Make sure to hit the trials both inside and outside your house. The ants will become agitated, but more importantly, they will become confused. Vinegar completely covers their scent trials and they are unable to follow one another to the food sources, your food.

Get rid of ants with boric acid.
Finally, if you want to get rid of your ant problem for good, you will need to give them a treat with poison on the side. Ants easily consume boric acid but it also dries them out and destroys their insides. Head down to your local store and pick up a pint of boric acid or borax, tin foil, and sugar Have on hand peanut butter and grease, just in case your ants do not go after the sugary baits. Some ants prefer protein or grease. Also make sure you have water and measuring cups on hand.

Grab your water, sugar, boric acid, and measuring cups. Here is the recipe for sugar water, take: 1 cup water, 2 cups sugar, and 2 tablespoons boric acid. Mix together until you have a creamy, syrupy consistency. Make as much or as little as you want, just keep the ratio of 3 cups bait to 2 tablespoons poison. Once you have your syrup mixed, begin to cut out 2-inch by 2-inch squares of tin foil. Make as many as you feel you will need. Once you have them cut, place a good spoonful of the mixed poison on each.

Now that you have your traps built, find the ant trails that are leading into your home. Place your loaded tin foil squares next to the trail. It may take a few minutes, but some adventurous ants will take notice the new-found food source. The ants will bring the poison back to the colony and give it as food to the rest of the nest. If you get the quantity and timing right, you can wipe out a whole colony. Be patient, it will take at the minimum several weeks and up to a few months.
